Semicool Ceramics

Pottery with Personality

Julia Skott

I started playing with clay about fifteen years ago, and have been taking it seriously and selling for about five. I like to experiment with ideas about weird and lovely, mundane and silly – but also just be a part of people’s homes and days. Mugs and bowls can be such an intimate part of someone’s life, and it’s kind of cool to share that.

When I’m not in the studio, I’m also a journalist, writer, and podcaster – check out Make Do, where I talk about art and creating – who likes knitting, cats, and burritos. You can read more about me on my personal website, juliaskott.com.

Semicool Ceramics

I love what the semicolon does in language, and a little bit also that it makes people kind of nervous. I got a semicolon tattoo before the Semicolon Project was a thing, but I can relate to the cause and I’m OK if people want to put that meaning into it.

Every piece is stamped with my initials, separated by a semicolon.

If you want to see more of the kind of stuff I make and do day to day, you can check out @semicoolceramics on Instagram.

100% Handmade

I make and decorate everything in this store by hand. Most of the pieces are stoneware clay, which is durable and stands up to everyday and every-day wear.

I like to think that every mug needs to find its right hand, so I intentionally play with variations in size, shape and design. We all have our own preferences. However, if you want a matching set - two? eight? - just let me know. Any other questions? Drop me a message.
